Toontrack 24 Midi Packs Collection 101

hi
i tried several kinds of drum software. ez drummer, superior drummer drumagog.. but i finally ended with using addictive drums. for me it has the best sounding and editalbe drums of all these software drumkits. regarding midi: i used it with miditracks that were derived from trigger signals that were made out of microphone tracks from an real drumset.
aka reamping if youd think guitar.
hope this helps
loed

i’m still on the hunt for surf midi grooves. toontrack has a metric ton of midi loop libraries at this point, but no surf pack, or even surf-punk. it’s such a fun and lively style of drums, and they’ve released every possible take on metal grooves, yet they keep doing more.
the core surf beats are easy to program manually, but it’s those bombastic surf fills that are very hard to hand build with midi notes. and just the overall live feel of a drummer playing surf. it’s just not quantized. it’s loose and free by design. hard to replicate it manually.

first, you will want to start with the midi drum kit and then you will use the included software to sequence the various drum sounds. this is the hardest part of making drum tracks with “cool” sounding drums. i would recommend the following software programs:
1. drumkit pro, which is specifically for midi kits and
2. drumsound, which is also specific for midi kits.

this is a great package and they really show you how to record drum parts as well as have them build on top of each other. as i said before, i really like this package because it really gives you a good overview of the drums and allows you to add as many drums as you want to play and then you will have to go back and edit it.
overall, i do not think it is as easy to use as the superior kit. the superior kit is really easy to use and has a lot of knobs and sliders and the way that you can edit them is very easy to see and understand. but the superior kit has no midi out so you cannot easily integrate with other software. if you are looking for a program that will get the job done, this is probably your best bet.
but if you are more looking for a program that will have you recording and editing drums, then go with superior drum kit.
