how to install rufus:
- download the rufus portable installer from portableapps.com.
- once downloaded, run the installer and choose the “install rufus portable” option.
- accept the default location where you want to extract rufus to, and then follow the instructions.
- rufus will download all the files it needs from the internet, including its registry settings. at the end of the installation, rufus will ask you if you would like to save the settings to a file, in case you want to copy it to another computer. if you choose not to save the settings, and click next, rufus will install itself, and start working as normal.
- when it’s done, click on the finish button in rufus. from there, rufus will run in portable mode.
- if you have any issues, you can always get help on the forums here or on the forums.
- if all is well, you can close rufus and go about your day!
rufus is a free and lightweight tool designed to create a bootable usb flash drive to install windows 10 on your computer. you had to provide the windows 10 iso to make a bootable media in previous versions. however, you can now download the iso file and prepare the bootable media within the experience similar to the microsoft media creation tool.
note: in the latest version of rufus (3.5), theres now an option to download the iso image for windows 8.1 or 10 directly through rufus, if you dont already have a copy saved. just click on the drop-down arrow next to the select button and choose download instead. this will open a dialogue box where you can choose which windows version you want to download.
