it’s been almost a year since the release of the infinite abidance, and while the album still is not available to the public, the duo’s next lp is expected to be a 2020 release. the duo is known for their creative and mind-bending concepts, and fans have waited patiently for a new album. the infinite abidance should be one to remember and cherish.
throughout the years, the bay area has been very influential, and has a long-standing relationship with hip hop. before, there was the pharcyde and jedi mind tricks from oakland, the coup from san francisco, aesop rock from san leandro, mac dre from berkeley, and slim thug from vallejo. the two most influential albums of the past few decades are dre day’s the chronic and krs-one’s chronic 2001. dre day’s album is so influential, and is the reason tupac shakur’s first two albums all eyez on me and ready to die were named after the album. krs-one’s album also played a major role in the commercialization of hip hop. today, the bay area is known for its diversity of talent, from the long-running mac dre from oakland to the rising dream warriors from san jose. dre day is also from the bay area, and recently released futuristic 4eva with fellow bay area native gee.t. these two are also closely related to the bay area’s original bloodshed.
In a perfect world where the Cash Money loyalists would make a return, this would have been much stronger. But Tech shows why he can be as good, if not better, than any current day emcee. After shuffling around labels for years, he finally got his own imprint, Alamo Records, out of the park. His catalogue of street quality singles throughout the years, coupled with his newfound content on 3rd World, shows just how serious Techniques head is about his music. And frankly, no one cares if you run from one label to the next. This album deserves the throne.
After releasing one of the most important albums of our generation, Technical slowly, but surely, began to grow apart from his label. On 3rd World he is more in his zone, and simply rapping. This shouldn’t be a surprise. For so many years, he was first name on the label, being courted by talentless acts that had nothing to offer. When you’re a legend, you’re never completely understood. Can’t no one see this release is a triple shot of adrenaline. The streets, the Cold and the West Coast all screaming his name while he’s only handing out some bars. To wit, check out tracks like War, The 3 Kings, and Money, Money, Money along with a ton of others. With 3rd World, its clear that Technical isn’t taking no shit from nobody. He’s been fighting for his people for years now, and its really paying off.
The Darker Side Of Me is the fifth album by Jedi Mind Tricks, and the second on Babygrand Records. The album was recorded at P.R.P. Studios (OuterSpace), Vinnie Paz, Chief Kamachi, and all members of Jedi Mind Tricks himself, Vinnie Paz (taped tracks), and was produced by DJ Premier. The album features guest appearances by such artists as Des Devious, Celph Titled, and others. It also features production from The Alchemist and the supervisory production by DJ Premier. The album is not a continuation of the preceding Legacy Of Blood (2006) and is more hip-hop than Jedi Mind Tricks albums are traditionally. Lyrically, the album is rooted in philosophy, spirituality, and Christian themes. The song “Universal Love” is a version of love, where Jesus Christ is the entity the listener/recipient must imagine is in love with them. Due to the theme of the album, the title track “The Darker Side Of Me” describes where the individual perceives themselves in life, and how they perceive other people, while others don’t seem to get it. The last track on the album, “Soldiers Of Christ”, was used as the music of the NFL champion New York Giants after they won the Superbowl in 2007.
