i also cant help but notice that they seem to have been working on some new designs for the monsters theyve been using, like a creepy little girl with a horned owl and another girl that looks like a demon version of a bishounen. while i cant help but wonder what all the fuss was over the totoro character sheet they released over the summer, these new images look much better. i really hope they use these for future ghibli projects, including the upcoming feature film how to catch a dragon which is co-produced by studio ghibli and is rumored to be a continuation of nausicaa made in cgi. for more information about the new spirited away images, visit this link.
it’s been an interesting week or so on the anime front. from march 31st, one of the largest anime fansubs in existence ceased production of their monthly shows. the web site that they were using has also been taken down and it’s not been made available to the public. in the past we’ve always had the choice of whether or not we wanted to download the english dubs, but now the only way is to do so from the internet itself. ironically, a few days after the sub finished, a new anime fansubgroup was formed called studio platypus which has already started working on their own anime and begun to sub them into english. so, you can still get the most recent stuff without having to resort to bits and pieces of the internet, but you have to pay for the english dubs. it’s certainly an interesting time for anime fansubs. although they can’t really be blamed for this, i feel that the fansub groups have taken the choice away from the fans and made it the sites, instead of the people that use them. i mean, when was the last time that you heard of a non-fansub group putting up their own money and buying the english dubs for their own fansubs?

the best way to download english dubs is by searching online or using the anime planet site. there’s several english dub free sites, but none are as extensive as the big three above, so if you want to get it all, you’re going to have to pay for it. for a third of the price of the biggest one, the big three will provide you with plenty of free stuff. most of the time, the best you’ll get from any of them is a couple of episodes of your favorite anime. if you don’t want to pay anything at all, you can always download from these sites: funimation.com anime planet animeflix.com anime store.net anime virtual store animemes.com anime-dvd.com
i recently moved to germany from the uk. one of the things i noticed right away was that the tv channels were not at all the same as back home. to be perfectly honest, i don’t watch much tv. i have a roku and can watch movies or catch up on an episode of my favourite anime if i want. i hardly have time for tv, but when i do i just switch over to catch something on the iplayer or watch a dvd. there are so many british programs that are so easily available and you can’t buy them at the movies. in germany you have no choice. you have to buy them at the movies, or download them. there is no on-demand service such as that in the uk.
