How to manipulate xib file with swift 3

I am new to the swift and I have followed the xib approach (based on an older Xcode version). I have setup a xib file and changed the placeholder (required) and would like to create an object instance with this xib file.
I have implemented a var xibName in my ViewController:
var xibName: String!

I have tried to create an object from the xib file:
var im = self.window?.contentView.instantiateViewController(withIdentifier: xibName) as! MyViewController

I would like to create a new instance of my xib file, but since the window is nil, I get an error:

fatal error: unexpectedly found nil while unwrapping an Optional value

How can I solve this issue?

The problem is that you don’t have a window (the one you’re trying to access) before you try to call instantiateViewController. Instead, try the following:

I’ve started a new “project” in my photography business. It’s called Lifestyle Photography and it’s kind of a new thing for me. I’ve done a few weddings in the past, and I’ve also done some portraiture in the past, but this is kind of a new kind of project for me. I think that I’m going to do a few lifestyle pictures for some clients. I also plan to do a lot of family pictures in the future. I know that if I can do both, it’ll be a great business for me.

Last week, I had my first client for the Lifestyle Photography Project. I knew that there was going to be a problem with the pose that I was going to take with this family. Here’s the problem: The little boy in the family has the same name as the little boy in the family who I photographed just a few weeks ago for another client! Both boys have the same name, the same mom, and I’m not sure what else. I did tell the mom that this might happen, but I’m not sure if she bought it.

The family posed with the boy on the right. I couldn’t take the picture, but I can tell you that it wasn’t very pleasant. I had the little girl in the right chair, but the mom asked me to do something different. I wasn’t going to say no, but what could I do?

I took them to a nearby park, and I had the mother put her son on the rock wall. Then I took the family to a nearby park and I had her put her son on a play set. I still wasn’t happy with the picture, but I’m trying to look at the positive. The little boy is happy, he’s smiling, and the little boy loves to be outside.

We shot a few more pictures in the park.
