I have read a lot about “self.variableName” in Objective-C, and I’m still not sure how it is used or not used.
Why would I want to put a dot in front of a variable?

You should not use self.myVar and instead use [self myVar].
The reason is that self.myVar is a local variable which only lives in the scope of a method. [self myVar] is a global variable that exists in every scope. It doesn’t matter if the variable is defined in a local scope or not.

Do you think the three boxes that still show the package as “unlocked” actually have any actual content inside? And do you think it’s likely that there is any actual content?
One way to find out is to completely destroy this box and see if the claim is true that there is no data inside it. Perhaps we could also simply remove the battery to see if the phone is actually bricked or not.
Just in case it’s not clear, the idea is to put the box back on the box and see if it can show the barcode of this box again.
I just tried this and I can confirm the same problem, that it still cannot show the barcode (and I think this is also true for the other boxes in the image).
I’m not sure why the text inside the box is bold; it’s probably just the standard font used by the Ghostery anti-tracking tool (or maybe even adware/malware) which I think was installed when I installed the first version of the Malwarebytes app.
While it’s not entirely surprising that this particular app has caused problems with the barcode scanning feature, we should remember that in reality it’s not much different than a million other malware apps.
Every app in the Google Play Store has a barcode that’s used to verify that a certain app is genuine. Since the barcode is for this particular app, it’s really quite likely that the app itself will cause issues with this feature.
The only good thing about this is that now I know how to easily remove the app.
