What should I do if I want to learn Photoshop?
You should dive right in. The Adobe Photoshop Web site has plenty of resources for getting started with Photoshop. You can find the many tutorials for different types of editing, including creating special effects, and starting with a blank canvas.
But your first step in learning Photoshop is going to be the hardest step of all. It’s getting over the hurdle of “seeing a mouse”. Many people give up on learning Photoshop because it’s that overwhelming. If it’s an old, outdated program that seems more complicated than photography, you can force yourself by overloading it with a bunch of brushes, sets, layers, layers, layers.
How do I start?
Pick a project and a day.
Learn Photoshop CS6 (the latest version) the same way you would learn another new program. Read the manual and the tutorials. Go on a class at a local arts and crafts store. Join a Photoshop group online. It will take time to learn—but I guarantee you it will be well worth it!
If you’re a complete beginner, my two favorite places to start are the class at a local arts and crafts store and the Photoshop world website. I always learn the most by attending local classes and studying other peoples’ work. The Photoshop world site is a great resource for this as well. I suggest downloading the tutorials to your hard drive or camera. If you’re learning color management, you can learn it by looking at other peoples’ work, and you can also use the tutorials on the site.
Get comfortable with the main tools.
Once you’ve made it to the digital darkroom (and you’ve learned to use the main tools), it will be time to advance. You’ll need to start experimenting with tools other than the main ones. Don’t get so caught up in experimenting that you forget to practice.
You’ll find the tools for the main tasks that you do with a photo in Photoshop. You can use masks, adjustment layers, selections, layer styles, and filters. You’ll eventually find that you can use Photoshop for more than just the basic editing.

1. Lightroom
It is one of the most powerful photography software out there. You can use Lightroom to burn-in, dodge and undodge, and raise image contrast.
2. Develop module
Go to Layer>New, then create a new adjustment layer. You can then use the adjustment tools in the Develop module to raise or lower the strength of the halo.
3. Edit brush
The Edit brush is used to highlight and remove pixels. You can use the Brush tool to use the new pixels to paint on a new layer or use the direct selection tool to paint on a new layer. The Brush tool is more powerful than the direct selection tool. You can also use the Brush tool to paint on a new layer. The direct selection tool is used to paint on a layer directly.
You can use the Spongy Brush, Hair Brush, Scrub Brush and Soft Round Brush tools to create a brush. The Spongy Brush and Hair Brush tools are strong, but the Scrub Brush and Soft Round Brush tools are less powerful. Both the Spongy Brush and Hair Brush tools can be used to paint on new layers. You can also use the options at the top of the Brush panel to control your brush’s size and opacity.
You can use the round brushes, as shown in the image below. The best brushes for the round brushes are the Soft Round Brush and the Vintage Round Brush.

Embedded journaling
Embedded Journaling (or TrueText) was a proprietary protocol used to store the tags, attributes and values of extended properties in the storage space of the image file itself. The proposed standard was developed by Eastman Kodak Company in 1981 and first implemented in its Perfection 1650 film scanner. It was later used in the Kodak Electronic Personal Webcam (1986), Kodak DC6410 QCD 10.2 camera (1992), Kodak Electronic Personal Page (1996), Kodak Electronic Personal Webcam (2000), Kodak Digital Camera 12 (2003) and some of the Kodak DCS21 scanners and the Kodak DCS5000 scanners. The embedded journaling is used when the scanner, camera or machine has a memory to store the photos; and it is not possible to load a new page into the machine.
