Hi guys,Just another example of a dilemma of the OSes ability to pretty much ignore templates.
I have a blog based on the classic OpenX theme. It was originally designed to work with just the OpenX theme but there were a lot of changes to the OpenX theme and some of the templates in particular was re-implemented to be compatible with the OpenX theme and some other themes. Because this is a blog and not a website it’s what you would think of as a ‘dipic’ but that’s actually not entirely true.
Let’s say I wanted to update the header but I wanted it to reflect the logo on the site in an overlay without any borders (a simple yet elegant solution for a header) but even if the sidebar is open, the footer will still be hidden. I would have to use a value that’s already in the theme’s stylesheet.
The silly thing about that is that not only will it work perfectly in the OpenX theme, I will see the footer everytime I visit my site but now I have updated the theme as the OpenX theme and my logo didn’t work with the header. Sure it still works but since the header, sidebar and footer all have their own values it won’t work because I’ve changed them and it’s not what they originally were for. Also because the OpenX theme was re-implemented to work with the other themes, I’ve had to change the header, footer and sidebar values to fit. Basically I have to change a lot of things.
Yes I would hate to have to do that but then again I’m not a fan of having to play to the game to get the desired results because of time consuming hassle and all that. I can understand people who want to get their job done.
I know it’s probably a very silly example but that’s the problem with the OSes. They are way too opinionated in how to use a theme for what to achieve. Not so much in regards to other OSes. I know that WP is more flexible but I’ll end
