(2) Description of the Prior Art
The system diagnostics of most modern electronic equipment is normally accomplished with a computer implemented test to diagnose the electronic equipment which has failed. Usually the test will be performed by a test engineer, and the results of the test will either be stored in a data base for review by a maintenance engineer, or communicated to a test engineer over a phone line.
More recently, automated test equipment has been developed for performing automatic system diagnostics. Generally these units utilize a general purpose clock generator and a large number of test patterns to diagnose the components in an electronic system. One example of such a system is available from Test Systems Consultants, Inc. of Wheaton, Ill. and is known as the PROMPROCESSOR.TM. system. This system includes an architecture which provides a means for analyzing all system clocks and loop timing loops. The PROMPROCESSOR.TM. system allows a user to perform functional tests of a system and also provide for diagnosing faults and non-reproducible failures in an electronic system.
Typically, the general purpose clock generator generates a single clock signal, and the operation of the clock generator can be controlled by a single control signal. A single clock generator can then be used to drive all circuitry in the system under test.
