diablo 1 has very few imperfections that can be considered significant – it was never designed to be an immediately approachable game, after all. but after playing through the game again, with gog’s tweak of its graphics and controls, it’s not even close to being a particularly bad game. there’s only one real question that remains to be answered, and that’s whether or not gog’s version of diablo 1 will retain the “simple gameplay” that makes it such a brilliant old-school action game.
gog already has a knack for finding games that are way more fun than they should be. in the case of diablo 1, there’s a ton of great stuff that’s left out of the game, even in its re-released version. diablo 1 is already a fun game, but gog has added a lot of great features that bring its already-solid gameplay to a new level. if you’re into action rpgs, you should definitely check out diablo 1 on gog.com. it’s a lot of fun to play again after all these years. but if you want to play it with the best controls, graphics, and multiplayer functionality, you’d better get your hands on a steam copy of the game.
