all this was going on at the same time that microsoft was trying to get the odbc driver for foxpro drivers to work with microsoft sql server. it was a complex task that involved a lot of different people in different departments at microsoft. once the odbc drivers were working, the ms sql server people needed to know how to make odbc work with ms sql server. the odbc team wanted a driver that was compatible with the foxpro drivers, and ms sql server wanted to make sure that the odbc drivers for foxpro were compatible with the new ms sql server.
i work as a senior programmer in a medium-sized company. i have been using foxpro for more than ten years. it has many great features. for instance, the database engine can create and manage objects, procedures, and forms. it is well integrated with html, which allows you to create web applications. (the integrated ftp server is especially useful for this purpose.) it is also integrated with microsoft access databases. if you have a database already created in access, you can use its components within foxpro. (this is my favorite use of foxpro.) in addition, it allows you to access information in files, spreadsheets, and pdf documents. (the integrated pdf reader is especially useful for this purpose.)
i have been using vfp 9.0 for a number of years and it is still in production. it is robust, well integrated, and easy to program in. i’ve been in it for more than 40 years and foxpro is still the best solution.
