some of the diagrams in the book are dated (e.g. the phylogenetic tree and the human body model). perhaps a more modern figure could be used or additional images could be created to more accurately depict the subjects in question. i also think there are a few typographical errors and should be corrected.

i reviewed this text to inform that it is excellent in conveying information to a lower level of microbiologist and engineers working in industries such as food, water, bioremediation and defense. for future editions, more emphasis should be placed on teaching the microbiologist regarding the culture of different pathogens (e.g., treating mycobacteria infections). for similar reasons, teaching the microbiologist to treat human infections caused by non-pathogens should be addressed. some of the themes are quite in depth (e., dealing with high-throughput strain characterization for drug development), and the text is geared towards those of us engaged in microbiology research.

thanks for your feedback. this is the first text on the market that addresses these issues so maybe there are ways to improve the text to make it more relevant to our course. there are a few topics that we want to discuss with you and your group during our next in-class meeting. i will email you an update on this issue.
