but i would say that overall, its a very interesting, creative and fresh genre, and it certainly has been growing in the past few years. i have never understood how a punjabi can go to a urdu movie and enjoy it, but can only go to a punjabi movie and still really love it. this is what struck me about rocket singh. its all the same. it is a wholesome movie with a strong message, and it isnt forced in any way. it has a great soundtrack, and the visual appeal is superb.

well, i guess you can do no harm in a movie, but rocket sings ancillary isnt as good as ddljs. in fact its just as bad as the other movies in the series. with the obvious exception of gaudhian kaprober, the rest of the character isnt given a name, and doesnt even look like the character in ddlj. the three-dimensional hai-vees and shrish-cool hucksters of the original movie have been replaced by equally two-dimensional versions of a hindu chauvinist, a ddlj-headed girl, and a sikh-headed boy who is actually a nice guy but doesnt get the girl. the film doesnt just focus on his character, but the character interaction.

it seems that the trick of making a chak de india out of a slightly trivial subject is no longer enough for amin. even when he tries a more thematic approach in his next film, ab tak chhappan, it feels like he has hit a wall. maybe the time has come for him to look elsewhere for inspiration. and the mentality of his films seems to be getting more and more cynical in the wake of rocket singh, which makes them seem even more difficult to watch. on the bright side, the songs are quite a treat.
