Using Photoshop Elements

Elements is a completely different kind of program. It is an entirely different image editing program and does not provide the same tools and features as Photoshop, although you can import images and layers from PSD and Photoshop files. As you progress in your Photoshop experience, you can and should consider transferring your images from Elements to Photoshop.

Getting up to speed on Elements

You can quickly look over the features of Elements in Table 1-1. But first let’s get familiar with the steps involved in editing images in Elements.

Preparing your images

Before you start editing in Elements, make sure that your image is set up the way that you want to keep it. All your images should be set to be saved in the sRGB color space. For more on color spaces, see the nearby sidebar “Understanding color spaces.”

Figure 1-1 shows the Edit tab for an image.

You also need to set the image to be saved as a.jpg or.jpeg file. You can do this from the Image menu.

Making sure the image is in focus

To make sure you have properly focused your image before editing, select the Crop tool. On the keyboard, press Y. The active cursor turns into a cross-hairs icon with green lines inside it. Place the cursor inside the image and drag across it, as shown in Figure 1-2. Release the mouse button. You should see a small box appear that shows the distance to the nearest focus point. When you see this box, your image is in focus.

Following are some more tips for choosing where your focus points are located:

To bring the focus point to the bottom of the image, click the Rec button on the keyboard. A square symbol with a line in the middle appears at the bottom of the image.

To bring the focus point to the right side of the image, click the Tilt button on the keyboard. A square symbol with a line extending to the right appears at the bottom of the image.

To bring the focus point to the upper left corner of the image, click the Center button. A

Lightroom

Lightroom is a professional photo management and editing program. Designed for both photographers and casual photographers, it is more advanced than Photoshop Elements. It has all of the features of Photoshop and offers a lot more options to help people edit their photos and videos.

Adobe Lightroom is bundled with Adobe Creative Cloud, so you can start editing right away.

PowerDirector

PowerDirector is a video editing program for both professional and amateur video producers. It helps you produce videos, edit videos, create DVD and Blu-ray discs and convert videos from other formats.

Adobe Photoshop

Adobe Photoshop is a professional graphics editing software. It was originally created by Adobe Systems, but was bought out by Adobe in 2010.

The freezing process is the main cause of cell damage. A previous study showed that the freezing process induced more thawed samples to be necrotic or non-viable ([@B34]). In our study, we obtained the maximum stem cell yield from collected samples from IMS patients, as well as a minimum proportion of viable cells. This finding indicates the removal of the fat layer increases the number of hematopoietic cells that meet the standard quality of cryopreserved cells and reduces the possibility of cell injury during the freezing process.

The severity of IMS might be an important factor which influences the autologous stem cell collection time and the outcomes of HSCT. The present study indicated that patients with more severe disease received more rapid stem cell collection with fewer viable cells after collection. In previous studies, mild and moderate disease had higher CD34^+^ cell counts and CD34^+^ cell/monocyte ratios compared with severe IMS ([@B35], [@B36]). The current results showed that patients with more severe disease tended to have fewer viable hematopoietic stem cells after thawing.
