Neocolonialism is a game about political domination, powered by a simple mechanic. The colony starts with 10 factories. If it wants to buy another one, it needs to pay the ruler money. The ruler can choose to pay in fiat money, gold, silver, or other assets. If it chooses a currency that is worth more than the one it is being paid in, it will be worth less.

The only way to grow its economy is to buy buildings with fiat money. The law forbids you to sell gold to the ruler. When the ruler has no more fiat money, he steals your gold, or he shuts down your factories, and then you have to start over from scratch. He often gives you a week to restock the factories. If he catches you, your factories will be destroyed, and you will have to start over at the beginning of your colony.
