36 Installed Options Within Transmitters The following options can be installed: – Sensor options Sensor Options, which are made available by using the Sensor Setup function. – Output options For transmitters that support multiple outputs, you can choose an Output Setup option. Make all of the changes and click Save. You can also choose to modify the default settings, which are recorded in the transmitter s Current Configuration file. You can access the Current Configuration file as follows: Transmitter – Click Tools > Current Configuration file The PC displays the transmitters Current Configuration file. To modify the default settings in the current file, click the tabs at the left side of the file window. To select a new default for a particular setting, click its tab. Selecting a new default The default setting in the file replaces the original default setting. If there is no default setting for a particular option, the option is not displayed on the tabs. You can choose a new default for an option by clicking the option and selecting a new default. The other settings in the current file remain unchanged. 37 Installed Options Start/Stop panels For certain transmitters, the Start/Stop panel can be customized to provide additional information. For transmitters that support this capability, you can choose Start/Stop options. When the Transmitter > Window is open, click in the Start/Stop panel and modify the text box as required. If, for any reason, ProLink II installation is not successful, see the information in this section. You will need to review the Windows error messages, and check for firmware updates on the PC before continuing with installation. 5.1 Windows error messages Windows generates one or more error messages during an installation. If you receive one or more of these error messages, you should review the following information in the Windows Help window for more information. Click OK to override the installation and continue with installation of ProLink II. 5.2 Firmware updates You should update the firmware on your PC to the latest version as soon as possible. For details, refer to the ProLink II user manual on the Micro Motion Transmitters web site at. 8 Chapter 3 Using ProLink II Software 1 Start the ProLink II program 2 Start using the program ProLink II displays a dialog box displaying the title of the program. Use the Exit button to close the program. Displays the setup dialog box. Use the Next button to start the setup program. Choices and responses are indicated by dotted boxes and are listed below. 7. Close the Setup program and unplug the CD-ROM. 8. Restart the computer. 9. Plug the ProLink II CD-ROM into the computer. Read the CD-ROM instructions and then insert the CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive. Save the setup file to the computer’s root directory (e.g., C:setup.exe). This file will be used to setup the ProLink II software later. 3 14 Chapter 3 Using ProLink II Software installing the software Click the Finish button to close the setup program and begin the software installation. The Next button allows you to choose an installation destination (e.g., the application program folder or Program Files folder) or cancel installation. Installation 1. Write-protect Mode The ProLink II software must be installed to write-protect the transmitter before enabling the transmitter configuration. You may use the following instructions to write-protect the transmitter. If you do not write-protect the transmitter before enabling the transmitter configuration, the ProLink II software will automatically create write-protect mode settings without your intervention. Write-protect mode must be enabled before the ProLink II configuration can be used. If write-protect mode is enabled when the ProLink II configuration is used, some software fields will be pre-selected (see Section 3.1.3). If you need to re-enable write-protect mode, complete Step 2 before Steps 3 and 4. Installing ProLink II Software to write-protect the transmitter: 1. Select the Locate drive button. 2. Browse to the root directory of the drive where you wish to install the software. 3. Select Setup.exe, from the list of files in the tree view. 4. Click Open. 5. The Setup program starts and displays a Setup Wizard screen. 6. Click Next. (You may be prompted to select an installation destination.) 7. Click Finish. When the Setup Wizard ends, you will be returned to the Windows desktop. 8. Restart the computer. 9. Plug the ProLink II CD-ROM into the computer. Read the CD-ROM instructions and then insert the CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive. 3 15 Chapter 3 Using ProLink II Software 10 To disable write-protect mode, repeat Steps 8 through 9 to install ProLink II software. For instructions on disabling write-protect mode: 1. Select the Locate drive button. 2. Browse to the root directory of the drive where you wish to install the software. 3. Select Setup.exe, from the list of files in the tree view. 4. Click Open. 5. The Setup program starts and displays a Setup Wizard screen. 6. Click Next.
