Roblox is a free to play multiplayer online computer game platform and game creation system that allows users to program games. Users also have the ability to create content for distribution.

Roblox is created using the programming language Lua. Lua is used extensively for backend web services, and many games created with Roblox use the same engine as the wiki engines that powers Wikipedia and Wikipedia’s sister projects.

Roblox is free to download and play, and has a paid subscription service for in-game purchases of virtual items. Roblox’s policy does not permit the monetization of children, for example by giving them a way to purchase virtual goods. The term “mods” refers to modifications made to the base game and game engine that take advantage of the platform, but are not endorsed by the company.

Historically, Roblox was used primarily by children between the ages of 8 and 14, although the platform has grown to include users from all ages and backgrounds.

Use of Roblox is currently booming, having become one of the most successful platform for children under the age of 16 in the US. The platform has been driven by a growth in the numbers of children that are not currently playing video games, but not playing other activities such as sports or arts.

Roblox still has a large number of its users being children, but at the same time, many of the commercial games on the platform have focused on adults.

A significant number of users play the games created by their friends. In order to join a game, a user must either invite the friend to the game or they must go to a friend’s house, which is usually where they spend the most time.

Roblox has its own in-game store, with more than 300 games created and 100,000 games tagged with keywords. Roblox refers to these games as’skins’ or ‘themes.’

In the fall of 2019, Roblox announced a spin-off called Roblox Studio, which allows users to create their own virtual reality or augmented reality experiences.
