I do not use a workaround. If I intend something to be permanently hidden, I do a long-term rollback. If I am looking at a file, I have it archived in the archive mode if I want to come back to it later. This all is done in the drive UI. I do not use drive.google.com to control my stuff. If I have to use drive, I generally use the Shelf feature, but the Shelf feature is much too limiting. Google should ditch Shelf because it has no purpose. I recently archived a 90GB file because I just found it in my archive. So I try to keep my files “hidden” from all the people who visit my office. I use the “remember my last visit” feature to keep track of how long it is since I last visited a file. So I just have a list of recently accessed files on a recent visit. That’s it. Hidden from all the people who visit my office. I can take the file away, save the archived copy, and restore the file I want to. I can’t do that with Shelf. I thought this feature of Google Drive was only in the business version. I am puzzled that it is in the free version of Google Drive also. In any case, the screenshot example you provided is misleading. Those who get a link in the first place have seen that screenshot. Instead, I would just provide the poster with the data that looks like a file, like a photo, and let the user decide what to do with it. The poster would have access to the data if they choose to see it. I don’t even have to give them a link. I have to give them the raw data, which is much easier to give them. I also do not attempt to give them what should be private data. I would be happy to use the data they provide to make their private data more private. Privacy is way too important to mess around with this. I have a list of files on my desktop, which I use to organize my files, just as I do with what I store in my Google Drive. I can’t access that folder or list from anywhere but my desktop. It’s there, but only if I want it there. I have it organized in my Google Drive just as I do with my desktop. The files I use are not hidden from the people who visit my office, because I make sure that they do not access them on the network. I archive/unarchive files in the archive mode, and I edit files from there, and then I push them back to my Google Drive and check them into the history, when I am ready to make them visible to others. I don’t “keep secret” anything because everything I store can be found by me, or others. I don’t “keep private” anything because I never take anything off the network, or I don’t give people the ability to see that anything is there.
Your example is not valid. Either you are using Google Drive properly, or you are abusing it. As I said before, the business version of Drive makes it impossible for people to see anything.
I recently used the Google drive file sharing tool to share some files, and they stopped sharing the files. I have a folder on an extra drive that I wanted to share a folder on that drive with my coworkers. Now the file sharing is broken. I have looked through online help and couldn’t find any information on this. I have googled this and have read that the only way to get the files off of a drive is to get the users to login and request the files. I feel my share settings are screwed up and I want to remove all files as they are not showing up. I am the owner of the folder and have not deleted anyone as a collaborator and get the message it is not a supported operation.
Is there any way to access the folders. Its my Google drive folder but I can’t access it. Also is there any way to delete the files or folders from my computer. I know there is if you want to give permissions to other people which I want to stop.
I created a new folder inside a shared Google folder. I messed up and put in some files that were not ready to be shared. Now, if I try to delete the files and put in the correct ones, it says that the collaborators still have access to the wrong ones. I really just want everyone to have access to the right ones without being confused about which one to click on. Even if I create a new folder at this point and delete the entirety of the old one, it will still leave the old folder in their drives, right Is there a way to delete everything for everyone and start again Since Im the owner of this particular folder, I had considered just removing everyone as a collaborator then deleting the folder and creating a new one, but then I got scared I would really mess things up.
