No read permission for a directory in Linux

I have a directory on an Linux server running NFS which is owned by an UID of the user who runs the NFS server. I am trying to remove this directory as a security measure for the server, but am running into permission errors.
When I try to remove the directory it returns:

rmdir: failed to remove `/mnt/data/mysite/test/’: Permission denied

I have checked the files/directories permissions and can’t find any problems. I can ls the directory without any errors.
If I run the rm command as root, it works fine. I get the same error, that is I get the same permissions error but with an extra user, the system user.

The results indicated that BDL induced a series of changes in the transcriptomic expression patterns of the liver and small intestine. The gene expression patterns of each organ varied in both BDL and BDL plus dextran sulfate (DS) models. However, the transcriptomic profiles of the liver and small intestine were more similar between the BDL and BDL plus DS models. Liver damage, as evidenced by the increased alanine aminotransferase (ALT) and aspartate aminotransferase (AST) levels, was exacerbated by DS. However, we found that the increases in the expression levels of the hepatic cytochrome P450 (CYP) 1A1 and CYP2B1 genes in BDL rats were markedly diminished in BDL plus DS rats. The results indicate that DS attenuated the systemic responses to BDL. Our findings provide a basis for investigating the relationship between the transcriptomic responses to BDL and the responses to cholestasis.Q:
