for example, there is a scene in my film gangs of wasseypur in which i call out to black, blue and white and tell them to attack me, to kill me. but it is not shown. a friend of mine who was a cameraman yelled to the lead actor; someone else yelled to the censor. they said to cut the line. but i told them: no, i want the scene to be like this.
the scene is a set up, its a pre-plan of a very dangerous situation i want to show on screen. i wanted to kill vicky kaushal (the lead actor). i told him that i would kill him on the sets during the filming. i told him i would be a threat to his life, i would come on set on that day. so, i told him i would bring my friends, i would come in teams of men. we would surround his house, we would kill him in the morning. that scene is good, because i threatened him. so what if i get away with that. i brought in the army, i threatened him, i killed him. thats a scene that has to be allowed in. you have to allow it. in one of the later chapters of my film, i threaten to kill akshay kumar. i tell him that i will cut you down and kill you. i said i will cut you down when you walk in the audience in his movie. but this scene is allowed.
it takes a long time to fight this battle. but it is also very important because i want my films to be universal. not for one family, not for one country. i dont want indian people to watch it. i want it to be universal. in any case, indian people shouldnt watch the film. so in a way, i dont care if they do watch it. but i want non-indians to watch it. they must know what indian people are like. i dont think they know what indians are like. i think it is a universal conversation. i want my films to have a universal conversation, to have a global conversation, an indian conversation and a non-indian conversation. but the conversation can happen only if it is universal.
