the module aims at achieving a b1 knowledge of english based on the common european framework of reference for languages (cefr); to this avail the knowledge of basic grammar and syntax structures will be strengthened and improved, while building up vocabulary and phrases to be used in general and professional contexts. at the end of the course the student is expected to: listening comprehension – can understand the main points of clear standard speech (conversations, lectures, lessons, audios and videos) on familiar matters regularly encountered in work, school, leisure, etc. reading comprehension – can understand texts that consist mainly of high frequency everyday or job-related language. speaking – can deal with most situations likely to arise whilst travelling in an area where the language is spoken; a tourism sciences student is also expected to be able to present clearly a theme trip to an english-speaking tourist destination, arguing their choice. writing – can produce simple connected text on topics that are familiar, of personal interest or job-related.
