Photoshop is Photoshop. Some people hear Photoshop, and they think of the program that created the Hollywood phenomenon. Everything from movies like The Matrix to searing newspaper covers has been crafted in Photoshop.

PSD (Photoshop) files are the main format that Photoshop uses. Your finished project (such as a logo, a photo, or a page in a print publication) is stored in a PSD file. Although it may sound simple, PSD files can be complicated — especially if you have layered layers of content or a complex document structure that you want to preserve.

To get into the program, choose Photoshop from the Applications menu. The Photoshop application window appears as shown in Figure 2-1. Or you can choose Photoshop from the Photoshop Window menu, located near the top of the screen.

Many photographers already know and love Photoshop. If that’s the case, feel free to skip to Step 4. Otherwise, read on.

The interface

Adobe Photoshop started out as a print design program with a number of features that make it suitable for print production. As new versions of Photoshop were released, the tools, features, and options were added to other aspects of the program.

Photoshop’s interface has grown and evolved, as have the programs built with its interface, but the overall concept remains the same: You have your image workspace on one side and the menu bar on the other. The menus are laid out in a similar way so that their names and related content are easier to find.

The large rectangular area in the lower-left corner of the Photoshop window, called the toolbox, is where you find the tools you use. There are several tool options that you can choose from to modify your image, but the most commonly used tools are the following:

Select tool: The Select tool, labeled with a + sign, is used to pick and select either objects or parts of an image.

Direct Selection tool: This tool is used to edit images by using it to create a selection outline around objects or to outline and select specific areas.

Tracing tool: This tool, labeled with a + sign, traces over a selection

Where to submit an idea for a comic/graphic novel?

I’m looking for a relatively new company that has a comic section (and maybe a graphic novel section) that I could submit ideas to. I’m not looking to submit my written work here, but I do have a fairly lengthy comic in mind, drawing-wise. I’m looking for a company that is just starting up (or maybe they are closed), because at this point, I could use all the feedback I can get.
I’m looking for a company that is not just about comics, but a company with the big names is probably one that does produce a lot of books. Either way, I’d prefer to do something that I know I could eventually become a bigger name in a particular field. We’re a website, we make a comic, and we have a whole section of the site where we post requests for people to draw, write, or construct ideas for stories that we could commission.
The idea works like this: it’s completely free, all you need is a browser and a willingness to draw something up and send it in. They don’t use a lot of art because it’s just one person doing everything, so we don’t need a lot of art.
There are other stories out there like that, like “4th and 33” which is by fans for fans. I’ve also been reading the daily comics you see in The Guardian for a long time.
The great thing about this is that you can read some of the stories in a way of comic-conceptions.com, and you’ll see various styles of writing that you can use as a model of different styles of writing.

We’re just a website. The events that happen in the comic are meant to take place in the real world, and in the beginning that was the only reason to even do it. However as the site has evolved, it’s realised how great it is to view the comic more as a piece of art. So now we have the comics section where you can read comics from all over the place. The rest of the site is for people that just enjoy the simple joy of reading comics and are more interested in creating them than reading them.
