There is a need in many electronic devices to emit electrons from a cathode at a fast rate and over a large area. For instance, this is required for flat panel displays or for lighting applications. No. 6,784,974 describe the use of diamond platelets, deposited on a cathode substrate, used to emit electrons at high speed. Field emitters require one or more low resistance low ohmic contacts. In many cases, a thin layer of molybdenum (Mo) is used as a metal cathode. However, molybdenum has poor work function and can cause emitter degradation due to its non-reactive nature. In addition, it has a high work function, and thus, is an inefficient cathode for electron emission. Metal-coated diamond or diamond-like carbon is also known in the art. In addition to Mo, the art has used other noble metals (for example, Ta, W, Ti or Pt) to make the cathodes for emitting electric field. Imiquimod (IMQ), a Toll-like receptor (TLR)-7 agonist, has been used in the treatment of superficial basal cell carcinoma. The aim of this study was to investigate the cutaneous effect of IMQ treatment of skin lesions induced by acetic acid. Twenty-four female Wistar albino rats were included in the study. Under local anesthesia, skin lesions were induced on the dorsal surfaces by 0.5% acetic acid. Two days after the experiment, topical application of IMQ or a hydrogel containing IMQ was done daily for 2 weeks. Clinical and histopathologic evaluations were performed on both groups after 21 and 56 days. Tumor necrosis factor-alpha levels in serum samples were measured using the rat enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay kit. The topical application of IMQ hydrogel on skin lesions resulted in significant improvement in the color, size, and erythema of lesions. Histopathologic evaluation also revealed the effective treatment of skin lesions. The effect of IMQ on skin lesions was more prominent when IMQ was applied as a hydrogel. Consequently, IMQ may have potential for the treatment of cutaneous lesions. We conducted a multi-institutional investigation to determine the optimal solid tumor control rate (R1) in patients with stage I non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). The study included 972 consecutive patients who underwent complete resection of stage I NSCLC at 14 institutions. Univariate and multivariate analyses were performed to assess the impact of clinicopathological factors on the R1. The median follow-up period was 4.4 years. The overall R1 rate was 58% (537 of 932 patients). The R1 rate was significantly higher in patients with tumors > or =3 cm in diameter than in those with tumors
